You can capitalize on that by offering them a prize or ice-cream party or something fun to celebrate their accomplishment at the end. (Feel free to skip it for older teens.) Parents read the family portion of the guide out loud to their children. There are 14 lessons so they can digest and remember each critical part.

Is this for young kids or teens?
The guide is designed to help families across a range of ages. The guide is written to appeal to young kids, teens, and young adults alike. Age range is probably roughly 9-21. But if your child is on screens, they definitely need to be educated about the dangers and how to use devices appropriately. For little children, please pre-read or skim the lessons first to mark out anything your young children don't need to know yet. That is up to your discretion as the parent. And for young kids or those with short attention spans, refer to the next question for suggestions to keep them sitting still and listening. Younger ones could get bored with some of the content that is irrelevant to them. You can simply those parts.
How long does it take each day?
15 minutes of reading for 14 days. If you have additional time, there are also some very fun discussion questions at the end. Use these if you have the time to spare, and ask them throughout the lesson if a child is getting antsy and needs to participate. It's extremely useful to train our kids to spend their time learning and engaging in family discussions. So don't be intimidated buy reading to them for 15 monutes. And we promise the guide is not boring. We've made it funny and very relatable with relevant stories for each topics. Older kids may act like they are too cool but most kids like to be read to. Arm them with a snack, a comfy blanket, their favorite spot on the couch, and maybe a squishy toy!
Without the questions or interruptions, the lessons can be read in about 15 minutes. But the questions are very fun and are specifically for connection. They are not boring review questions from the chapter. They are actually fun conversation starters about funny and positive things that are relevant to each lesson. We find that it's far better not to ask accountability type questions in a group setting while going through the guide because this can cause them to be uncomfortable, disengage, and dread or zone out for the next lesson. This guide is designed for heart connection and fruitful communication that produces deeper trust so accounbtability will come more easily and naturally one-on-one with your child. Make it fun and they will get a whole lot
more out of it!
How will I get my kids to sit still for a
15-minute read-aloud lesson?
We have a lot of suggestions in the book about this in the "Parents Only" part. Setting them up with a snack, drink and fidget toys, plus coloring books and markers can help. Also rewarding them for paying attention can help. For shorter attention spans, there are fun and silly discussion questions at the end of each chapter that can be used throughout the get them engaged. The writing style is funny and includes interesting stories about other kids in each lesson, so most kids should do ok. You can also split the lesson in half and read half at the dinner table and half for nightly devotions. Scripture is referenced throughout, so it could be used in place of a devotional since the goal of the guide is to live faithfully and use screens in a Christ-honoring way.
